Biography

I was born and raised on Vancouver Island; mostly in Victoria. I love the island and cannot imagine living anywhere else. We are lucky to live in what I consider the most beautiful part of the world.

I obtained a diploma in Business Administration – Accounting Option from Camosun College in 1999 and shortly thereafter wrote and passed the Graduate Management Admission Test, allowing me to apply for admission as a student in the School of Chartered Accountancy at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. In June of 2002, after numerous courses and countless hours studying and learning on the job, I received my Chartered Accountant designation. In July of 2008 I completed the In-depth Tax Course, offered through the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, which is the most comprehensive tax training available in Canada.

I articled at Blain Allen Inc., a Victoria Chartered Accounting firm, from May 1999 to June 2002 and continued there after receiving my designation until June of 2003 when I left for my first maternity leave. I returned to work as a manager at the firm Hutcheson & Co. in Victoria in July of 2004 and worked there until my second maternity leave started in July of 2006.

When the opportunity for partnership at this firm presented itself, it was a relatively easy decision to make. Moving away from our family and friends in Victoria was difficult, but we looked forward to starting a new life in Campbell River which would allow us to spend more time with our children.

We (my husband, our two children and I) moved to Campbell River in July of 2007 and I started working at Lawson Magnusson Chase in August of 2007, after my maternity leave ended. In January of 2008, upon the retirement of Shari Magnusson, I was admitted to partnership with Derek Chase.

I am now responsible for the accounting and income tax side of the partnership, which provides bookkeeping, financial statement preparation (both Notice to Reader and Review Engagement), and corporate and personal income tax services. I particularly enjoy the tax area of the practice; I feel it is the most practical and rewarding aspect of what we do for our clients.

When I am not working, I am spending time with my family and friends. We particularly enjoy outdoor activities and living in Campbell River provides us with a seemingly infinite number of such activities to do together. I also enjoy reading, playing games and listening to music.
