Coronavirus Canada: COVID-19 Measures for Employers

coronavirus canada

The following is an important message from the CRA concerning COVID-19 measures for employers:

The CRA is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and working with government partners to implement the best possible measures to serve Canadians, and prevent disruptions to their tax and benefit affairs.

For employers, the following measures are in effect:

Requirements to PAY (RTP)

  • Effective immediately, the CRA will not be sending any RTP to employers.
  • For RTPs currently in place, remittances are not required, until further notice.
  • The CRA also requests that any RTPs that you may receive this week not be actioned.

The Temporary Wage Subsidy for Small Business

The Government of Canada also announced a temporary wage subsidy for employers for a period of three months. Effective immediately, eligible employers are permitted to reduce remittances of federal, provincial, or territorial income tax by the amount of the subsidy.
